Traffic training for immigrants
On August 14, 2024, road safety consultants Frank Meuffels and Holger Jörißen conducted a road safety training course for immigrants at the Anita-Lichtenstein comprehensive school in Geilenkirchen on the initiative of the district of Heinsberg.

Around 50 children and young people between the ages of 6 and 17 from various countries were trained. Some were also taught in English.

The police officers covered the following topics in particular during the training:

  • "Kerb is a stop" (crossing the road safely)
  • Explanation of crosswalks and crossing aids
  • Safety through visibility
  • Bus school (dangers in, on and around the bus were explained)
  • "Blind spot" (practical exercises - also with the bike - on the bus)
  • Mobile phone ban on the bike and in the car as a driver
  • No headphones, when actively taking part in road traffic on a bike)
  • Compulsory use of the road for cyclists aged 10 and over

The children and young people from different countries are thus optimally prepared for the most important aspects of German road traffic and can therefore take part in traffic more safely. There was great interest in the free offer.

These events have already taken place in other towns in the Heinsberg district and will continue to be held in the future.
