Hückelhoven-Hilfarth - On the evening of 23 June (Monday), an angler fishing about one kilometer upstream of the Rurbrücke Breite Straße bridge noticed about ten canisters floating past him in the Rur at around 9.30 pm. He then informed the police. A short time later, more canisters, measuring cups and hoses floated downstream. Some of the containers were recovered from the river. The notified fire department checked the contents, including the pH value. They found that some of the substances were acidic.
The police are now looking for witnesses who have made suspicious observations or can provide information about who threw the objects into the river and where.
