Erkelenz-Venrath - On Wednesday evening (July 31), there was a traffic accident on Herrather Straße in which two people were slightly injured. At around 8.55 p.m., a car was traveling on district road 30 coming from state road 354 in the direction of district road 19. At the junction of Kreisstraße 30 and Kreisstraße 19, it crossed the carriageway of Kreisstraße 19 and drove straight into an access road on Herrather Straße. Here, for unknown reasons, the vehicle veered off the road to the right and drove over two plots of land, where it damaged a parked car, shrubs, two metal bollards and the metal fence of an orchard, among other things. The journey finally ended in front of a fruit tree, which was uprooted by the impact.
The two occupants, two 28 and 32-year-old men from Mönchengladbach, who, according to initial findings, were under the influence of alcohol, stated at the scene that a third person had been driving the car and had fled after the accident. However, as witnesses only found two people at the scene of the accident, a blood sample was taken from both men and the vehicle involved in the accident was seized. Further investigations are now being carried out by the Heinsberg police traffic commissioner's office.
Further witnesses who can provide information on the crime or details of the alleged third person should contact the Heinsberg police traffic commissioner's office on 02452 920 0.
