Erkelenz - On Saturday (May 31), a young man was approached in English by a stranger on the premises of a petrol station on Paul-Rüttchen-Straße at around 9 pm. The man stated that his wallet had been stolen. He asked the Wegberger to pay for the tank of gas and promised to transfer the money back to the young man's account.
The 18-year-old paid the bill at the petrol station. The stranger then told him that he would need more cash to be able to return to Ireland with his family. The young man then withdrew a four-figure sum from an ATM on the petrol station premises and handed over the cash. The man showed his helper his smartphone, on which he had allegedly instructed the money to be transferred back.
When he finally demanded even more money and went to a bank with the teenager, the man from Wegberg became suspicious and claimed to have problems with his bank card. The suspect then drove off in his car, which had Irish license plates. He was about 170 centimeters tall, in his late 40s and overweight. He was wearing blue jeans, a shirt with red/black stripes and had a bald head and beard.
In the vehicle was a child aged around 13 to 14 and a woman aged around 45 to 50 with shoulder-length hair. She was also corpulent and was wearing black leggings and a black T-shirt.
