Heinsberg - On August 29 (Friday), around 11:30 a.m., a woman rang the doorbell of an elderly man's apartment in Rheinertstraße. She asked him for a pen and paper. The helpful senior citizen went into his living room with the stranger. A short time later, the woman left the apartment again.
Shortly afterwards, he noticed that she had stolen a cash box containing cash, among other things.
The unknown woman was around 35 to 40 years old and of strong build. She had dark hair and a European appearance.
People who can provide information on the identity of the woman and other witnesses are asked to contact the Geilenkirchen police crime department on 02452 920 0. It is also possible to provide information via the Heinsberg police website or via the direct link: https://polizei.nrw/artikel/anzeige-hinweis.
In this context, we would like to give you some more tips against trick theft:
- Do not open the door to your house or apartment if unknown persons are standing in front of it
- In the event of an alleged emergency, offer to call for help yourself or to go and fetch what you need (writing materials, water). Leave the front door of the house/apartment closed.
- Involve relatives or neighbors in the case of unknown visitors or call them to a later appointment if a trusted person is present.
- Defend yourself vigorously against intrusive persons (draw attention to yourself loudly to get help, show dismissive gestures and facial expressions).
- If, despite all precautions, you have become a victim of trickery, always report it to the nearest police station.
