Gangelt-Birgden - On Tuesday (November 26), a traffic accident occurred on Bahnhofstraße in which a pedelec rider fell and sustained serious injuries.
The 81-year-old was riding his two-wheeler on Kreuzstraße in the direction of Bahnhofstraße at around 5.40 pm. As he drove past the Kreuzstraße/Bahnhofstraße junction, a previously unknown woman in her car turned right from the direction of a supermarket parking lot onto Bahnhofstraße in the direction of Großer Pley. The paths between the car and the pedelec crossed, causing the Gangelter to fall with his two-wheeler at the height of the front left mudguard of the car. After the driver briefly got out of her car, possibly a light-colored Peugeot 206 cc, to check on the victim, she drove off shortly afterwards in the direction of Großer Pley.
The victim was seriously injured and taken to hospital for further treatment.
Further investigations by the traffic police will now have to determine whether there was actually direct contact between the car and the pedelec.
Witnesses to the accident and the unknown car driver are asked to contact the Heinsberg police traffic commissioner's office on 02452 920 0 to clarify the incident. You can also provide information via the Heinsberg police website or via the direct link: https://polizei.nrw/artikel/anzeige-hinweis.
