District of Heinsberg - On Wednesday, December 11, officers from the Heinsberg district police authority carried out a special operation with the aim of reducing the number of traffic accidents resulting in serious personal injury.
They checked compliance with traffic regulations and adherence to speed limits in and out of town. When checking a German company vehicle, they discovered that the driver was not in possession of a valid driving license. Although he was able to produce a Belarusian driving license, it had not been valid for over a year, as the man had already established his residence in the Federal Republic of Germany since 2023 and would have had to transfer it. The officers therefore pressed charges against him and the company concerned.
A 58-year-old man from Wegberg was driving his company car under the influence of alcohol. He was also charged and must now expect a driving ban. Six people were not wearing their seat belts properly while driving and ten were using their cell phones in violation of the law. These offenses were also punished by the officers.
The speed of a total of 1190 vehicles was measured using a mobile speed monitoring system. 156 of them were speeding, with 131 being offered a warning and 25 cases being reported to the police. One driver was traveling at 86 km/h within a built-up area and was therefore 33 km/h too fast after deducting the tolerance. He will be reported to the police and will face a driving ban, as will two other drivers.
