Gangelt-Schierwaldenrath - On Tuesday morning (January 21), there was a traffic accident on the B 56 in which a woman was seriously injured.
The 53-year-old was driving her car in the direction of the Netherlands between the Birgden and Gangelt exits at around 06:40.
When changing lanes, there was a collision with a white van that was parked next to the woman's vehicle at roughly the same height.
The Heinsberg woman's car subsequently crashed into the rear of an oncoming truck and ultimately into the crash barrier.
The woman had to be taken to hospital for further treatment with serious injuries. The B 56 remained closed for the duration of the accident investigation.
The driver of the white van, which must have sustained damage to the front, then fled in the direction of the Netherlands and is now being sought by the police, as are other witnesses to the accident.
The latter are asked to contact the Heinsberg police traffic commissioner's office on 02451 920 0. You can also provide information via the Heinsberg police website or via the direct link: https://polizei.nrw/artikel/anzeige-hinweis.
