The Heinsberg Police Traffic Directorate kicked off Road Safety Week with a major campaign on the market square in Heinsberg, the Drive Safe Day.
Visitors could expect lots of information about road accidents with serious consequences. From the causes of accidents, to a rescue by the fire and rescue services, to an exhibited accident vehicle in which a family man died after an illegal motor vehicle race. Many visitors gathered information and watched the rescue operation carried out by the fire and rescue services.
During the week, the focus was on repressive measures. The traffic service of our district police authority carried out speed checks throughout the district. A senior citizens' bicycle training course was also held.
On Sunday, September 7, the colleagues from traffic accident prevention and victim protection were then present at the town festival in Hückelhoven together with Charly the bear, who supports the road safety advisors with road safety education. Charly delighted the children. A cycling course and a pedelec simulator were also on offer and the dangers of blind spots were clearly presented.
The entire road safety week under the motto "LIFE is the greatest good" was an absolute success.
District Administrator Stephan Pusch, who was the patron of the event, summarized the motto of the road safety week: "Whether as a driver, pedestrian or cyclist, whether on the way to school or work - road safety affects us all every day. Each and every one of us can make a contribution with our behavior to ensure that we arrive safely. Because every accident is one too many. With Road Safety Week, we want to send a clear signal together for more consideration, for more mindfulness and, above all, for more #LIFE."
