On average, 113 people are affected by a road accident and suffer damage or even a painful loss. In almost all cases, the cause is the misconduct of road users, for example due to excessive speed, distraction, alcohol and drugs or errors when turning.
The traffic directorate of the Heinsberg district police authority is holding a road safety week from August 30 to September 7 under the motto "LIFE is the greatest good" . During this time, various campaigns will be held in the district to draw attention to the causes of accidents and to talk to road users. The aim of the road safety campaign is to help reduce the number of seriously injured or killed road users in this context and to raise awareness of the need to comply with the relevant regulations. District Administrator Stephan Pusch has taken on the patronage of Road Safety Week under the #LIFE theme:
"Whether as a driver, pedestrian or cyclist, whether on the way to school or work - road safety affects us all every day. Each and every one of us can make a contribution to ensuring that we arrive safely. Because every accident is one too many. With Road Safety Week, we want to send a clear signal together for more consideration, for more mindfulness and, above all, for more #LIFE".

This symbolizes the traffic strategy of the state of North Rhine-Westphalia, which aims to reduce the number of traffic fatalities and serious injuries. The large letters are currently traveling through the state, being passed from authority to authority and placed at prominent traffic points.
The Drive Safe Day will kick off on Saturday, August 30, at the Heinsberg market square. Over the course of the week, the #LEBEN lettering will continue to move through the district. This will be accompanied by control measures to encourage a greater sense of responsibility in road traffic. The road safety week ends with the City Festival in Hückelhoven on Sunday, September 7.

As part of its road safety week, the Heinsberg police and the town of Heinsberg are organizing a Drive-Safe-Day on Saturday, 30 August, from 12 noon to 5 pm on the Heinsberg market square.
The Drive-Safe-Day recreates a traffic accident from start to finish. The police provide information on accident statistics, alcohol and drugs at the wheel, tuning, illegal car racing and victim protection. The Heinsberg district rescue service will be on site with an information stand on first aid and resuscitation. Visitors can experience the effects of alcohol or drug consumption on driving ability in the intoxicated goggles course. In a joint action by the fire department and rescue service, a rescue on a vehicle involved in an accident will be demonstrated at 2 pm and 4 pm. In addition, an accident involving a car in which a family father died after an illegal motor vehicle race will be on display.
